Sage & Sky Counseling

Insightful, depth-oriented therapy grounded in compassion, curiosity, connection

Our Real Work

It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.

- Wendell Berry

Many people start therapy because they feel anxious, depressed, burned out, unhappy in a relationship or at work, or are reeling from a loss. I work with individuals to support meaningful, lasting change by tending to the underlying pain beneath these experiences.

Together, we’ll explore the ways you’ve learned to cope and make sense of your world. This work will help you loosen patterns that no longer serve you and move toward a life that feels more like your own. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and provide depth-oriented, exploratory sessions to help clarify what feels meaningful, possible, and true for you.

Welcome. I’m Gretchen.

Education and Background

I began my career in mental health counseling after 18 years as an educator. My background in teaching literature, college counseling, and outdoor education continues to inform my approach today. I primarily work with adults and teens (16+).

My areas of professional interest include grief and loss, religious / spiritual questioning, relational and developmental trauma, and major life transitions such as divorce, relocation, and changes in life stage.

My approach is relational, non-pathologizing, and rooted in curiosity, with a strengths-based perspective. NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) is one of my favorite modalities. When I’m not working, you can find me on the trails with my German Shorthaired Pointer, playing the banjo, or cooking elaborate (and often messy) meals.
